The Morning Assembly: Here’s one often-overlooked issue for movie theaters. What other place in society requires you to set your phone down for two hours? Funerals, no. Flights, no. Movie theaters are the only place (and we are thankful for that, of course) that asks audiences to do something very unnatural. It’s not the price of a movie ticket; no one is really complaining about $12. But ask the audience to not look at their phones for two hours? That’s a big ask.

Marketing entertainment 15 / 20 years ago was so much easier. Far less choices. People actually believed our trailers! (I mean…we made Bridge to Terabithia look like a fantasy film for goodness sake. We hoodwinked the audiences, but luckily it was a great film).
1) the power of choice.
2) user reviews are readily visible. Previously they relied on “neutral” major outlets. Could they even possibly be biased?
3) price sensitivities.
Why spend money when they see it’s average when they can see something average for “free” at home?
